A Place for You to Belong

The Muddy $1 Bill
As Cedar Hill grows, more people like you are looking for a church family. They don’t want just a place to go for one hour per week and run through some rituals. They want to be warmly welcomed into a loving extended family.
That’s what First United Methodist Church, Cedar Hill is all about. Visitors are amazed at how welcome they feel immediately.
The children’s and youth programs at First Methodist are ready to nurture and support your kids right now. In fact, there are many special “families within the family” for all stages of life, including retired folks and men’s and women’s groups. The “Childhood Enrichment Program” for pre-school age children is extremely popular. First Methodist also makes their facilities available to worthy community activities including Boy Scouts, and health-related classes. First Methodist provides children in our community many special opportunities throughout the year such as vacation bible school.
This church is not built on guilt and judgment. It’s built on love and acceptance. Although first Methodist has been part of Cedar Hill for 155 years, you’ll find that it is an active and dynamic community. There is always something great going on that fits your life perfectly.
First Methodist provides many meaningful opportunities to serve the community and the world. We started the Cedar Hill Food Pantry and Bridges Safehouse, which have now grown to become community-supported charities. Members mentor at-risk children. They offer mission trips each year to places like Mexico, Russia, and within the US.
One of the church’s favorite lessons is in giving:
The congregation was very involved in helping the Hurricane Katrina evacuees, both those who came to Cedar Hill and those who went back to re-build. The first Sunday that Cedar Hill had guests at Mt. Lebanon camp, one of their staff went out to lead a Sunday service there. After the service, one evacuee asked if they were going to take an offering. The staff member said that he did not think that it was appropriate, given all they had been through. The evacuee pulled two muddy, water-soaked dollars out of his pocket (all the man had) and asked the staff member to put one of them in the plate at our church.
It was a wonderful lesson for our church. We framed the muddy dollar.
P.S.: After hearing the story, someone from First United Methodist Church found the man and gave him $60 that afternoon. The next day the man used the money to buy cigars and resold them, one at a time, and made $200.
He gave half of all he had to God, and less than 48 hours later he had 100 times as much as he started with.
First United Methodist Church - Cedar Hill is a warm, loving group of your neighbors who would love to have you visit.
